AFRS 320: Black Psychology Paper Assignment #1:
*Choose an article from The Journal of Black Psychology that sparks your interest, and react/dialogue with the article by discussing its thesis, purpose, function, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Make sure in the body of your paper, you also include the name of the author, the title of the article, and the article citation in addition to including it in your Works Cited/Bibliography page.
*Also, think about this question while you are completing this assignment: what is the importance/purpose/function of having a scholarly journal specifically dedicated to African/Black Psychology?
*Although this is a reaction paper that should revolve around what you think about the article, your paper should still be formal in its structure and presentation (i.e. grammatically correct, spell checked, proofread ahead of time, etc.).
*Your paper must be: 3-4 pages (at least 900-1200 words) of actual text excluding the cover page/Works Cited Page/Bibliography, etc.
* Please underline your thesis, include a title, and make sure your paper is properly formatted for your citation style.
*Type in the word count on the bottom of the last page of your paper.
*Your paper must also be typed, double spaced, use 12 point font, and Times New Roman.
*If you feel the need to include additional sources in your discussion, feel free (even though it is not required). Just make sure you properly cite all of your sources both in the body of your paper and in your Works Cited/Bibliography page (via MLA, APA, or Chicago).
*Remember, you cannot use an article that is already included in your syllabus as an assigned reading for this semester. But, you can use an article by one of the same authors (i.e. Wade Nobles, Na’im Akbar, etc.)
*You can also make an appointment with one of the tutors in the AFRS Writing Center to have them review your work ahead of time and earn 5 points extra credit (with a max of 15 points). Please make sure you attach the form the tutor gives you with your paper to verify your meeting.
*This reaction paper is worth 25 points and is due on Wednesday, September 12th by the end of class.
